SM003 is a computer mouse concept exploring a touch pad as a method for scroll navigation and selection. The intent was to keep the familiar form of a traditional mouse and also include a smaller touch surface for scrolling and panning behaviors.
This was an after-work hours project that took approximately three weeks to complete (with a couple of breaks in between). This was also an opportunity for me to practice Solidworks surfacing and branding design.
There were a series of iterations before I landed on the dedicated touch strip scroll-wheel. This concept shown above is a low durometer silicone based shell with more integrated touch strip.
